TLS Surveying-GPS-Mapping Inc. is Small Business licensed to survey in the Commonwealth of Virginia and our SERVICE AREA is throughout the entire state.  The office is located in Newport News, VA with 11 full-time employees consisting of two Licensed Land Surveyors, four field crews and three AutoCAD technicians.  To present a neat, professional image to the public our field personnel are uniformed and all employees have visible company identification.

Our office personal currently utilize five workstations with AutoCAD 2000/2005 and Eagle Point software.  Field personnel utilize Trimble Robotic Total Station with electronic data collection and the GPS staff has been trained by Trimble Navigation Certified Training Program.
THE HISTORY
This firm has been in existence and active since 1958.  It was originally created by the late Robert L. Locker, a Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor.  In 1962, Mr. Locker sold the practice to two Richmond, Virginia, Land Surveyors, William L. Miller and Carl Reynolds.  Mr. Reynolds, along with fellow surveyor, Edward J. Keller, L.S. relocated to Newport News, Virginia to operate the business under the name Reynolds and Miller Certified Land Surveyors.

After serving as Reynolds and Miller's Chief Land Surveyor for sometime, Mr. Keller purchased the company in 1971.  He continued the company as E. J. Keller, Inc. Land Surveyor until 1982 when Wayne E. Lewis, L.S. became partner.  The company name was then changed to Keller, Lewis and Associates, P.C.   The practice remained until 1992 when Mr. Lewis moved to Matthews, Virginia and formed a practice there.  The company then changed its name to Keller Land Surveying, P.C.

On June 1, 1998 the name changed again to Thomas Land Surveying, P.C. when Gary C. Thomas, L.S. and Mr. Keller made an agreement to transfer the company to Mr. Thomas.  Under his direction the company saw great growth, in personnel and in services provided to the clients.

The company underwent another milestone on April 1, 2005 and became TLS Surveying-GPS-Mapping Inc., when Mr. Thomas C. Cheney, II, L.S., became partners.  Together Mr. Thomas, Mr. Cheney and all the employees at TLS Surveying-GPS-Mapping Inc., constantly look to expand our professional growth and are dedicated to providing our clients the timely and accurate land surveying services they require.

Mr. Thomas has over 20 years of experience in the land surveying industry, licensed since 1993.  He has performed many Boundary, Topographic, Construction and As-built Surveys.  He has worked on residential and commercial projects for a variety of clients including the Department of Defense and local government offices.  Currently, Mr. Thomas is a principal surveyor for TLS Surveying-GPS-Mapping, Inc. and oversees all administrative issue.

Mr. Cheney has over 10 years of experience in the Land Surveying and GIS Mapping business, licensed since 2004. He has worked on many Boundary, Topographic, Construction and As-built Surveys, for both private clients and government agencies. Currently, Mr. Cheney is the Vice President  Operations Manager for TLS Surveying-GPS-Mapping, Inc. and oversees the surveying activities of the company.
